Sure, every parent wants you to be better than Sharma ji’s beta, beti, puttar, laal, laadla or whatever their prodigal child is called, but is that really what you wanted to do with life? We spend our days doing boring, mundane jobs that we have no clue why we’re even doing except to sustain ourselves in this competitive world. It’s easy to get trapped in it for years and years. Life is too precious to be mediocre and what better way start to this week than by waging a war against mediocrity! But how do you rise above this mediocrity? We’re going to talk about just that.

5 Ways To Beat Mediocrity

Find your passion

Is there that one thing that gets the adrenaline pumping, that one thing you know you could do for the rest of your life. It’s good to have a dream and it’s even more important to believe in it. If you don’t have one yet, find it. Look for it within yourself because it might be something that stuck with you from childhood but just got buried under “life”. Maybe you dreamt of being an archaeologist or a scientist who makes a breakthrough discovery or a business tycoon with an empire the size of an entire continent. Whatever it was, figure it out. You owe yourself that much.

Don’t compromise your values

We’ve all been through circumstances where you give up your ethics or values to “fit in”. Guess what. Fitting in is overrated. It’s okay to be different if it means that you live your life by the values that you believe in, and not what the crowd follows. Keep your values intact and do a great job at doing so. Don’t care what people think about you. We know it’s easier said than done, but try to practice it because you cannot get far in life if you stop to think what each person you come across thinks of you. As long as the people who matter the most to you are by your side (even if they don’t get it), you’re good. Sure, some people might think you’ve lost it at first, but soon they’ll realise that you’re pretty darn awesome and look up to you!

It’s OK to fail

Far too often, people beat themselves up and give up on their dreams when faced with rejection or failure. Failure is GOOD! It tells you where you’ve gone wrong and what you need to work on to get back in the fight. Teach yourself to face failures head on with a positive attitude. Fight for your dream, because like we keep saying, if you don’t believe in your own dreams, who else will?

Be ready to take risks

If you take the average working population in India today, most of them are working towards making sure they can lead a cushy life after retirement. Ask yourself if that is all that you want from your life too. And if it is, that’s totally okay too! Mediocrity is no villain but can be mind-numbing at times. We’re pretty sure that at least some of us have dreamt of making it BIG, whatever big means. You can kiss your little dream goodbye if you aren’t ready to come out of your comfort zone and work for your dream. Whether you dream of becoming a part of the board of directors where you work, you dream of running your own successful business or you want to break free and do rock climbing for a living, you need to work towards it. Everything takes some effort but isn’t that satisfaction after having achieved your dream totally worth it? Because like they say, “If you don’t try, you’ll never know”!

Manage your time well

Most of us constantly complain about how there’s just not enough time in a day to get things done. Think about it, “I have no time” is nothing but a lame excuse for most of us who dreams of doing so many things in life but just don’t. And then there are some who seem to do it all and have it all figured out; balancing work, business, personal life, social activities and family. They have the same number of hours in a day as the rest of us. It’s just that they manage their time better and have their priorities straight.

You know you lead a great life when you wake up excited every morning and go to bed every night content about all that you’ve done in the day, every day of your life. Wouldn’t that be something worth working towards? Make each day count. We leave you with one of our favourite quotes from Steve Jobs:

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.

Here’s to reaching for the stars and beyond!

#KredXMondayMotivation Most of us are stuck in a rut, a rat race of sorts.
